July 7th 2024, Höljes – ‘Magic Weekend’ in Höljes is called this way for a reason… It allows for great racing and it proved right with the start of the RX2e season. It has been a really challenging weekend for all the drivers, due to the changing conditions and the new Hoosier tires. Despite this, Nils Andersson couldn’t have dream of a better start for the RX2e season. The Swede driver topped every race he did this weekend, from Heats to the Final. Andersson, reigning RX2e Champion, who didn’t manage to win a race last season, finally got his maiden win in RX2e in a spectacular beginning of the year.

Andersson began his perfect weekend in the Heats, winning each and every one of them putting on great pace and opening a gap to whoever rival was behind and trying to get to him. On the contrary, on of his title rivals last season, Isak Sjökvist, struggled to find the pace during the whole weekend, although he recovered to win his race in Heat 4 and his Semi-Final.

Another Heat race winner were Mikaela Åhlin-Kottulinsky, who managed to secure that win in Heat 3 putting on a great pace and not letting anyone come close to her and Marko Muru, who in his third RX2e appearance, after the two races he did last season, emerged victorious in Heat 2.

This weekend also marked the debut in RX2e for ‘Luigi’ and Luka Wloemer. Both drivers, got better with each race, ‘Luigi’ even winning one of his Heat races and Luka being able to get into the finals. On the other hand, Molly Taylor, in her return to RX2e, showed great pace during the whole weekend, but had her fair share of bad luck during the Heats.

After the Heats, Nils Andersson was topping the standings, with maximum points, followed closely by Isak Sjökvist and Mikaela Åhlin-Kottulinsky. For the first Semi-Final, teammates Andersson and Åhlin-Kottulinsky would share the first row, followed by Luigi and Molly Taylor in the second. And for Semi-Final 2 it was Isak Sjökvist and Marko Muru on the first, with rookie Luka Wloemer in the second.

Nils Andersson continued his perfect weekend and won also his race. Behind, Molly Taylor was really combative, first with Mikaela Åhlin-Kottulinsky, who she put under pressure for most part of the race, although the Swede defended her position, and then once we did the Joker Lap with Luigi, battling with him and she finally came victorious to secure her place in the final, along Nils Andersson and Mikaela Åhlin-Kottulinsky. For the second Semifinal, Sjökvist put on a great start and was trying to open the gap, although Muru, who did an early Joker Lap was putting him under pressure, slowly closing the gap. Unfortunately, the Estonian driver had a problem and his car stopped in the middle of the track, allowing Sjökvist a comfortable win and also Luka Wlömer to overtake him. Finally, Muru could put the car back working and finished in third, securing his spot in the Final.

It was time for the long awaited Final. Nils Andersson shared the first row with old rival Isak Sjökvist, behind, Mikaela Åhlin-Kottulinsky and rookie Luka Wloemer and in the last row Marko Muru and Molly Taylor. After the green lights, Andersson got a clean start ahead of the pack, while Molly Taylor did a great launch which placed her in P3. Meanwhile, Sjökvist spun and lost some positions. Marko Muru and Luka Wloemer opted for an early Joker Lap strategy, which allowed Sjökvist to keep P4 after his spun. The Estonian driver was setting a great pace, closing the gap and he managed to overtake Sjökvist and regain P3 once Molly Taylor did the Joker Lap. In the end, Andersson won ahead of his teammate Åhlin-Kottulinsky and Muru, while Molly Taylor arrived in fourth, the rookie Luka Wloemer in fifth and Sjökvist in sixth.

After the race, Nils Andersson couldn’t hide the happiness: “It was devastating last year… I had it in the back of my mind going through the last lap. So doing this in home soil, in front of so many fans is so great!”.
