- She will race for #YellowSquad
August 1st 2023, Barcelona – Molly Taylor will make her debut in RX2e in the next race in Belgium. The Veloce Racing star will join the grid for the remaining races of the season, Mettet in Belgium, and Estering in Germany as part of the #YellowSquad team, by Hansen Motorsport.
“RX2e it’s the ideal place to begin learning Rallycross with electric cars, combined with the opportunity to be part of the #YellowSquad team and learn from some of the best in the business”, she explains as to why to join this Championship. “First and foremost I’m expecting to learn a lot! It’s all completely new so I see this as an amazing opportunity to learn a lot quickly. That’s the target for the races – to learn and develop as fast as I can and build a base for the future. Coming from a rally background the side by side racing is something that is new to me so this is a great way for me to increase my experience with this type of racing, which I’m sure will translate across to Extreme E”, she adds.
Molly Taylor developed interest in motorsport racing and rally from a young age, her mother being a four-time Australian Champion co-driver. Taylor was the first female accepted into the Australian Motor Sports Foundation International Rising Star. In 2011, she was part of the World Rally Championship Pirelli Star Driver program and one of the youngest and the only female driver participating in the WRC. She has won several championships including back-to-back Australian Rally Championships in the F16 Class for 2007 and 2008.
In 2009, she became the British Ladies Rally Champion, the first driver from outside of the United Kingdom to win the title. In 2016, Taylor won the Australian Rally Championship overall classification. She was the first female to do so, and at the time, the youngest ever to do it regardless of the gender.
Molly Taylor raced in Extreme E in its inaugural season, which she won driving alongside World RX champion Johan Kristofferson for Rosberg X Racing. This season she is driving for Veloce Racing, alongside Kevin Hansen, and the pair are currently running in third place in the overall standings after three rounds.
Just ahead of her first race in RX2e, the Australian driver will be testing the car for the first time in a private test in Calafat, so that it is not completely new for her in her debut.
